Thursday - Restorative Yoga

Restorative Yoga - Mats, props, blankets, and tea are provided.

Restorative yoga is a restful practice that is all about slowing down and opening the body through passive stretching. Throughout the session, you will enter a state of relaxation which can release tension from both body and mind.

Unlike athletic and acrobatic styles of yoga, restorative yoga is accessible to all body types. The session focuses on breath-work, meditation, stretching, and a few postures that are held for about 5-10 minutes using props such as blocks, bolsters, and blankets.

Restorative Yoga Potential Benefits:

Increased relaxation: Deep breathing calms the nervous system to promote relaxation, and research supports a restorative yoga practice as an effective way to relax. A 2014 study suggests that restorative yoga is more effective at inducing relaxation than regular passive stretching.

  • Better sleep: The more relaxed you are, the better your chances are of getting a good night's rest. A 2020 meta-analysis looked at 19 different studies on how different types of yoga—including restorative yoga—can impact sleep quality. Restorative yoga was found as an effective tool to manage sleep-related challenges.

  • Improved well-being: Yoga practices, in general, are commonly associated with improved physical and mental well-being in the general population

  • Better mood: Research shows that yoga can help those with stress, anxiety, depression, and other mood disorders manage their symptoms.

  • Reduced pain: Studies show that different styles of yoga including restorative yoga are helpful interventions for the management of musculoskeletal pain

  • Gentle on the body: Restorative yoga practices are gentle on the joints, and consistent practice can strengthen the connective tissues that surround the bones and joints.

  1. Money - $10/person

  2. Barter - Items or services mutually agreed upon that are traded without involving money

  3. Commitment - Identify a very specific act or service you can provide to yourself, your family, or the community that will bring good into the world. This commitment must be shared with the instructor prior to the start of class.

Tuesday - Restorative Yoga

Restorative Yoga - Mats, props, blankets, and tea are provided.

Restorative yoga is a restful practice that is all about slowing down and opening the body through passive stretching. Through out the session, you will enter a state of relaxation which can release tension from both body and mind.

Yoga Nidra - On Zoom

Yoga Nidra - On Zoom - Meeting ID 579-662-0009

*First time participants will receive a stress-reduction welcome package!

With the holidays approaching, it’s important to make an effort to rest and reduce Stress. Yoga Nidra is unique because it focuses on completely relaxing the brain and body. For 30+ minutes, you’re cozy and laying still in this beautiful state between being awake and being asleep. There’s a similar, scientific term for this state, called the “hypnagogic state” and it’s said that many creative minds such as Einstein, Edison, and Edgar Allen Poe would seek out this state of consciousness to enhance their creativity.

Yoga Nidra works with the autonomic nervous system. The autonomic nervous system regulates processes of the body that take place without a conscious effort (heartbeat, breathing, digestion and blood flow). This system also includes the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems.

A recent study showed that while meditation and Yoga Nidra were both effective in reducing anxiety and stress, Yoga Nidra seemed to be more effective in reducing anxiety. The study also suggested that Yoga Nidra can be a useful tool in reducing both cognitive and physiological symptoms of anxiety.
